Youth Hockey Clinics

For those hockey players who are ready to take their game to the next level or who want to improve their skills to make their next team, Montclair State Ice Arena offers all types of skills clinics throughout the year for players to improve. From power skating and shooting clinics to goalie clinics and stickhandling clinics, Montclair State Ice Arena has a program to enhance your hockey skills. Check out one of the classes on our schedule that are taught by our highly trained professional coaching staff.

Maffei’s Mites Clinics

Maffei's Mites

Designed specifically for the youngest hockey players (8 and under), Maffei’s Mites Clinics focus on developing core skating, stickhandling, shooting, and passing skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Led by Coach Nick Maffei, these sessions offer exciting drills and games to build confidence and fundamental skills essential for progressing in hockey. Whether it’s power skating, scoring, stickhandling, or battle techniques, Maffei’s Mites combines skill-building with engaging play to keep young players excited and improving throughout the season.

Maffei's Mites Spring Clinic

March Clinic

Come join Coach Nick and the Maffei’s Mites for March Clinic to work on stickhandling, puck control, skating and shooting. Groups will be broken up and play cross-ice games to finish each session.


Fee: $60 Pre-Registration; $70 Day of Walk-On (if available)

Pre-Tryout Clinics

Designed to prepare players for upcoming team evaluations, Pre-Tryout Clinics focus on sharpening skating, puck control, shooting, checking (age-appropriate), and overall hockey IQ in a structured, high-tempo environment.

These sessions emphasize edge work, acceleration, battle drills, and game-situation reps to help players build confidence and elevate performance heading into tryouts. Whether refining power skating, improving contact skills, or increasing scoring ability, each clinic is built to give athletes the tools they need to compete at the next level.

Powerskating Clinic

Add creativity to your game by blending edgework, stickhandling, and shooting together. This clinic for Squirts & older and will apply skills & drills directly into game application.
Patrick Zincone brings elite playing experience and high-level teaching expertise. He won a Tier 1 16U National Championship with the North Jersey Avalanche, served as captain of the Long Island Gulls, and finished as a two-time Tier 1 National Quarterfinalist. A Seton Hall Prep alum and current Providence College student, Zincone has extensive coaching experience in individual and group settings, specializing in modern skill development.

Fee:$110/Both Sessions or $65/Session Walk-On

Shooting & Stickhandling Clinic

Need that extra push for tryouts? Coach Adam Carlo will provide it! Sharpen your skating, stickhandling, and shooting so you’re peaking for tryouts! For all Squirt & Peewee birth years (2014 – 2017).

Checking & Contact Clinic

For first year Bantams thru Midget players (2013 & Older), this clinic is designed to teach and educate checking and body contact! Players will learn how to safely and efficiently give and receive checks, angle, and strengthen body positioning in both drills and game situations.

Fee: $280/4 Clinics or $80/Session Day of Walk-On (if available)

Robby Glantz Clinic Montclair State Arena

Spring Clinic with Robby Glantz

APRIL 2 & APRIL 4, 2026
Train with one of the best this spring!

Robby Glantz — internationally recognized power skating coach and trainer to NHL & Olympic stars — returns to Montclair State University Ice Arena for a high-impact 4-session Spring Clinic.

Players will develop explosive speed, stronger edges, powerful strides, and next-level puck control using Robby’s signature techniques, acceleration drills, resistance training, and elite skating mechanics.

Your program fee covers a lot of great stuff. First-time Learn to Play participants get a free complete set of gear, including skates, as part of a USA Hockey sanctioned program. You’ll enjoy a family-friendly schedule with 10 weeks of one-hour sessions, all led by professional instructors alongside Rangers staff. Plus, there will be special guest appearances from Rangers Alumni.

Rangers All Girls Learn to Play Hockey

Join the New York Rangers for a fun and empowering All Girls Learn to Play hockey program at Montclair State Ice Arena! Designed specifically for girls ages 5–10, this program introduces young players to the fundamentals of hockey in a supportive, girls-only environment.

Liu has an extensive coaching history in the NJ area, including growing the Hockey in New Jersey program to one of the largest Hockey is for Everyone programs across the NHL. Before playing 4 years at West Virginia University, he was part of the 2003 Randolph State Championship team that was inducted into the New Jersey High School Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
