Figure Skating
For those skaters ready to take their skating to the next level, Montclair State Ice Arena offers skating classes through our ISI Learn to Skate program for skaters who want to take their skills to the next level. The Rising Skater program is offered to enhance and improve the skills of skaters with classes in stroking, spins and jumps. Classes are sometimes paired with off ice classes as well to improve flexibility, agility, and stamina.
OTHER ADVANCED CLASSES
Our MSA ASPIRE Skating Academy is for skaters who have completed the Basic 1 – 4 curriculum. Aspire Class is a weekly class that takes place on Learn to Skate Ice, and is structured as semi-private classes and is an hour long class. Skills covered include salchow, toe loop, half loop, half flip, half lutz, scratch spin, sit spin, and introductory footwork maneuvers, spins & stroking.

The Aspire program marks the transition from skater to figure skater and teaches athletes of all ages the skills they need to make the most out of their figure skating journey. From tips for practicing on your own to a repeatable off ice warm up, resources from the Aspire Program will help you become the best skater you can be.
SPRING #2 SESSION ASPIRE CLASS
The One (1) Hour ASPIRE Class (basic 5 – 8) is offered on these Learn to Skate Times:
Tuesdays 5:10 – 6:10pm
Wednesdays 5:10 – 6:10pm
Saturdays 12:20-1:20pm
Sundays 1:20-2:20pm
Spring #2 Session: May 7 through June 23, 2024 (6 week session)
NO CLASSES MAY 27-JUNE 2 for Memorial Day Week!
$225 per skater
Includes a 60 minute group lesson. Skaters will be on the ice for 1 full hour.

Choose “activity” from the drop down menu. You may then filter your activity selection by “Learn 2 Skate”. You will register for class based on your skill level and class selection. Once you choose your skill level (example: Basic 1) You can choose your day and time from the offerings. Click the Blue Register Button to add it to your cart. You may enroll more than 1 person at a time.
ASPIRE ACADEMY ( Freestyle 1-6 skater)
Aspire offers skaters an affordable, comprehensive package program in a safe and supportive group training environment. Skaters will learn proper skill development and training techniques while sampling different skating opportunities and fine-tuning their fundamental skating skills.
From edge classes to spin pyramids, you’ll learn how to warm up like a champion, navigate freestyle sessions and practice on your own.
The safe, supportive group training environment keeps costs down and motivation high as skaters acquire new skills, develop good practice habits and learn the fundamentals of off-ice training alongside their peers. Classes will be limited to 5 skaters per coach and will have use of the full ice surface.

Igor Lukanin’s extensive background in Russian figure skating and ballet 
coupled with his experience as a two-time Olympian and ACE certified fitness instructor makes his classes a sure-fire place to heat up your training. Igor’s unparalleled understanding of the ice and skating technique make his specialized on-ice classes the perfect place to keep you on edge.
Igor’s on ice edge class is geared for Adults (16 and older) and is not for beginners.
Get a great workout and improve your skating with this 30 minute intense class, followed by 1 hour of freestyle practice time!
Saturdays at 10:10am, & stay for the 1 hour freestyle immediately after (included).
This class will begin May 11,and run through June 22, 2024. (6 WEEKS)
No class on June 1, 2024 for Memorial Day Week!
$330 per skater (walk ons – $75 if space is available.)
Ice dance is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976.
Ice dancers focus on the technical footwork on the ice and on the dancing aspect interpreting the music. At national level it can be skaters alone or as a pair. At international level, competitions are only for pairs. Contrary to pair figure skaters, there are hardly any jumps and lifts have different rules.
Learn different elements like lifts, spins, sequences and twizzles in this ice dance fundamentals class with Krigor Studio’s Kristen & Igor Lukanin and staff. Kristen & Igor are 9 time World & Championship Competitors, and 2 time Olympic Competitors. Both coaching for over 20 years, Kristen & Igor enjoy sharing their passion for ice dance with their students.
This class will meet for 10 weeks on Thursdays, beginning April 4th through June 6th. Class begins with a freestyle session at 4pm and formal class at 5:10-6:10pm. The freestyle is included in the price of the class.
$700 per skater for all 10 weeks
Figure Skating Camp 2024
10 Weeks – June 24, 2024 – August 31, 2024 
Includes:
7:00-7:30AM Edge Class w/Igor (Value $50)
The following figure skate camp on ice hours are included:
10:00-11:00AM
12:20-1:20PM
1:20-2:20PM
(Value $300)
$350 Value for just $200 per week per skater.
Please note:
- No private lesson fees are included.
- No off ice classes are included.
- Lunch or snack is not included.
- Discounts are not applicable to this camp.
Week 2 is a 3 day week due to July 4th,
the price that week is $120 for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
PRIVATE LESSONS FOR FIGURE SKATING: During freestyle sessons, skaters may take private lessons from any of our on staff coaches. Coaches vary in price based on credentials.
