From Public Skating and Stick & Puck to Open Hockey, there’s something for everyone. Check the daily schedule for the latest sessions and come enjoy the ice at Montclair State Ice Arena.

Public Skate

Public Skate Guidelines

  • To help keep Public Skate safe and enjoyable for everyone:
  • Public Skate is intended for beginner skaters through Pre-Bronze level
  • Sticks and pucks are not permitted
  • Single jumps only: Waltz jump, toe loop and Salchow Axels, double jumps and triple jumps are not permitted
  • One-foot upright spins only Linked skating for synchronized skating practice
  • Lifts are not permitted

Please skate within your ability and be mindful of other guests. Arena staff may limit activities as needed based on attendance and ice conditions.

Weekday Sessions

  • Summer M-F: 11:30am - 12:50pm
  • Sept M-F: 12:30pm - 1:50pm
  • Nov M-F: 12:30pm - 2:30pm

Weekend Sessions

  • Fridays: 9:10pm – 11:10pm*
  • Saturdays: 1:30pm – 3:00pm
  • Sundays: 2:20pm - 3:40pm

*Times vary August – October

Sessions can be added weekly and some regular sessions may be preempted by other events. ALWAYS check the current ice schedule for the most up-to-date Public Skate times. All registrations are non-refundable.

Stick & Puck

Looking for extra ice time to sharpen your skills? Stick & Puck is the perfect opportunity for hockey players of all ages and abilities to practice skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. It’s also a great chance for parents to skate with their young players or for goalies to get in some extra shots.

Stick & Puck sessions are offered throughout the year, with additional ice times often available during holidays and school breaks. Sessions are $22 per participant. Be sure to check the daily schedule regularly, as new sessions are added throughout the season.

Please Note: As of August 1, full hockey equipment is required for all Stick & Puck participants.

Details

  • Sessions are open to players of all ages, HOWEVER, players ages 8 and under must be accompanied on the ice by an adult (age 18+). Please bring your own pucks!
  • Stick and Puck is limited to 40 players total (including goalies)
  • ABSOLUTELY NO GAMES ARE TO BE PLAYED ON STICK & PUCK SESSIONS!
  • Full equipment is required
  • Sessions are non-refundable once purchases

Open Hockey

  • Montclair State Ice Arena offers open hockey sessions all year round for many ages and abilities. Show off your skills in a relaxed, but organized game setting. After a 5 minute warm up teams are split up by jersey color and a fun game is played!

  • Sessions are offered and scheduled by specific age groups- there are no exceptions to age groups
  • Open Hockey is limited to 30 skaters and 4 goalies (First 2 goalies are free)
  • Adult Open Hockey – 18 Years and older only. Full equipment required.
  • At least one family member must be 18 years of age or older for Family Open Hockey.
  • Full equipment is required
  • Sessions are non-refundable once purchases
