More Ice Time, More Opportunities: Construction Progress Extends Summer Ice Availability at Montclair State Ice Arena
As work continues on the major cooling system and rink floor upgrades at Montclair State Ice Arena, we have some exciting news for our skating and hockey community.
Construction progress has allowed us to extend ice availability beyond the original schedule, creating additional opportunities for skaters, hockey players, and families to enjoy the rink this summer.
While the project remains focused on modernizing the facility for future generations, we’re thrilled to be able to offer more ice time than originally anticipated during the renovation process.
Rocky Rink to Remain Open Through June 29
The Rocky Rink will now remain open through June 29, providing two additional weeks of ice time before the full facility shutdown begins.
During this period, we’ll be offering a variety of drop-in opportunities, including:
- Public Skating
- Stick & Puck
- Adult Open
- Freestyle Sessions
- Additional drop-in opportunities as scheduling allows
Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills, enjoy a public skate with friends and family, or simply get one more session on the ice before summer, there will be plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the extended schedule.

Full Facility Shutdown: June 30 – July 12
Both rinks will be temporarily closed from June 30 through July 12 as crews continue work on the next phase of the project.

Looking Ahead

The project remains one of the most significant investments in the arena’s history. Once complete, the new refrigeration and rink floor systems will support Montclair State Ice Arena for decades to come, helping ensure the facility remains a home for skating, hockey, and community programs for future generations.
Most importantly, thanks to the progress made so far, we’re able to provide more ice time this summer than originally planned.
We appreciate the patience and support of our skaters, families, teams, and user groups as we continue building a stronger future for Montclair State Ice Arena.
Stay tuned for additional programming announcements and project updates throughout the summer.
