Looking Ahead: Leadership Updates at Montclair State Ice Arena
Montclair State University Ice Arena is entering an exciting new chapter, with a strong foundation and a clear focus on the future.
Mike Liu has stepped into the role of General Manager, bringing with him years of experience, leadership, and a deep connection to the Montclair hockey community.
Mike is well known at the arena, having served as Hockey Director and played a key role in developing programs and growing the game locally. His background includes helping build Hockey in New Jersey into one of the largest NHL Hockey is for Everyone programs in North America, along with a competitive playing career that includes West Virginia University and Randolph High School, where he was a member of the 2003 State Championship team that was inducted into the New Jersey High School Hockey Hall of Fame.
Now, he brings that same passion and perspective into leading the entire facility.
“Montclair has always been about more than just hockey or skating. It’s about the people, the community, and the experience we create every day. I’m excited to build on that and continue growing what we offer both on and off the ice.”
While stepping into this new role, Mike will remain connected to hockey through player development and clinics, continuing to support the programs and athletes he’s worked with over the years.
The arena will also begin the search for a new Hockey Director to help expand and strengthen hockey programming moving forward.
This transition also marks an exciting next step for Rita Mitchell, who has been promoted to Vice President of Venue Management with Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) after many years leading Montclair State Ice Arena.
Her leadership has helped shape the arena into what it is today, and her impact will continue across the broader SFC network.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to be part of Montclair’s growth and the community that surrounds it. I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited to see Mike and the team continue to take it forward.”
As the arena continues through facility upgrades and prepares for the upcoming season, this leadership transition reflects both continuity and momentum.
With a strong team in place and a clear vision ahead, Montclair State Ice Arena is well positioned for what comes next.
